Magic Lantern firmware (hopefully available for 70D soon) has many audio enhancements, including turning mini-usb jack into a headphone Jack with a small adaptor cable. This works well, especially with an external mic in the ext mic jack (which it does have). It adds professional video features and some great features for still shooters as well.

The 70D has neither a headphone jack OR an audio meter on the screen. As far as I know, none of the Canons have an audio meter UNLESS you install MagicLantern, which is not available for the 70D. We shoot weddings with two 70Ds, and one 5dMark II (with MagicLantern).

Monitoring from the external amp since the 70D doesn't have an audio out jack, the amp is fine. To make things wierder, the camera shows both channels on the on-screen meter just fine. So audio from mics to amp is fine, and audio coming into the camera up to the meters "looks" fine, but the final file that is saved....audio is screwed.

To my knowledge even most previous models don't have a headphone jack. I know that is true of my 60D. Check the manual for viewing on non-HD TV. On the 60D you do get separate Left/Right audio outputs. I suspect if you had to you could get some form of an adapter and combine those signals to a headphone.
