Canon 60D Audio Problems AGC Hiss: Canon EOS 7D / …

    https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2893820
Short and sweet, Canon 60D still has the AGC problem so don't think that the manual controls takes care of the hissing. This can be confusing when you see reviews about first HDSLR with manual audio controls. As for other posters who just want to get into semantics about "how you should film," please move along.

Canon 60D Audio Levels constant HISS! How to eliminate ...

The AGC is used in the 5D and 60D to turn the sound down when their is a loud voice. Otherwise you have that constant hissing sound in the background. Fortunately unlike the 7D, the 5D and 60D have the option to turn this off giving you semi-clear audio. But when you plug in a shotgun or external mic, this option goes away.

Re: Low audio on mic w/60D. 09-26-2014 05:21 PM. You probably need to adjust the sound recording level which will raise the audio recording level. To do this, go into the Menu > Sound Recording function. Switch Sound rec. to [Manual] and then press Set.

Perfect solution for problematic Canon DSLR hiss

After a bit of research, I found that the 60D and other Canon DSLR cameras (and no doubt other brands as well) almost always produce a notable degree of "quiet room hiss" when used with most external microphones--and of course it's usually worse with a cheap mic.

And when feeding the Nikon from the DR-60D line out, the audio was actually OK. Very slightly more hiss than the DR-60D, but very usable, but for the sync problem. OTOH, I did a similar sync test today against the DR-60D and my Canon XL2 and sync was fine after an hour. No noise issue. Log in to Reply

So in a really quiet setting, the AGC might crank up audio levels which may create a "hissing sound". I work with a Canon 60D and am not that familiar with the 5D family of Canon cameras. But one thing that works well on all Canon cameras is Magic Lantern. I've written a full review of Magic Lantern here

    2. Cape Town. Dec 15, 2011. #1. Audio hiss appears to be a problem, but I came across a 'solution' which claimed that if one has an external mic like a Rode Videomic Pro attached to a Canon 5D mk 2, simply set it to +20 db, then turn down the manual gain on the camera to about 20 to 25%. (The pre-amp on the mic is far more efficient than the ...
