    I had to adjust my sound card output settings to be 44100Hz 16Bits. On my Lenovo laptop, I found this by opening Realtek Audio Console>Playback Devices>Default Format. I changed the default format for every listed playback device and now the recorded system audio on Snagit 2021 sounds just like it should.

    Sound -> Highlight Speakers, click on Properties -> Enhancements -> Check the box that says "Disable all sound effects." Sound goes back to normal - I have a feeling Windows 10 prioritizes it's own alert sounds above all other playback, once you disable this you will have normal non-tinny sound again.
