Cambridge Audio Azur 640A draws a wide and deep three-dimensional scene; solo violin sounds nice. The muting of high-frequency tails is slow and smooth. The amplifier has the unique for budget equipment quality - you want to listen to classics in its performance.

The 640A is significantly brighter in the vocals. There is also more punch to the mid-bass, the low frequency range doesn't go as deep as the NAD. The observations about bass were confirmed by some measurements of playing pink noise through the system. The 640A dropped more than 8dB at 25 Hz (compared to 32 Hz), while the NAD only dropped 2dB.

All-in-all, the Cambridge Audio Azur 640a is a complete bargain. Having also heard the Creek, which is itself a great unit, I can not justify spending the extra $300 (400 if you want a remote) simply because it is a Creek. The Cambridge holds its own against integrateds I've come across costing well over three times the 640a's $499.00 MSRP.

The 640A refered to in the previous posts is an integrated stereo amplifier. The only AV receiver from Cambridge Audio at the moment is the 540R and it has a small form factor and a very good sound. Ed Selley AVF Reviewer Jan 11, 2006 #8

Cambridge Audio Azur 640C V2 review - Stuff

Cambridge Audio has a well-deserved reputation for sonic class-leaders, often beating Marantz, NAD and Pioneer. But it’s lost its way somewhat with the Azur 640C V2. Don’t get us wrong, it’s still a very good CD player – but just not up to the standard we’re used to from the London-based firm. Lacking precision

It's fitted with six line-level inputs (two with line-level outputs for use with recording devices), switching for two pairs of loudspeakers and 75 watts of power per channel. And if you're not keen on the silver finish, you can have it in black. It all makes for pretty good reading.

The 640A v2 has drive and is well suited for all music. I didn't think you can find this kind of refinement at this price. To be honest I was a skeptic of Cambridge Audio equipment until recently. Don't let the exterior fool you... it's mass market looks betray its capabilities. I'm not saying its ugly but it has a budget look to it.
