The 840C is one refined, amazing cd player. The newest Cambridge flagship 851C (which I auditioned recently) is marginally better, at least to my ears and you must really own mega-dollar equipement to hear the difference, and even then, your room will probably have a greater effect on the sound than the difference between the two players.

My Cambridge Audio 851C gave me so many problems that rather than fix it, I threw it out. Did not want to pass that bad juju along. It was lovely when it worked though. NAD, uh, I have one of those. It mysteriously went to all mono one day for about 6 months. It's back to stereo now. I think it's in control, not me, but it's days are numbered.
