Kajman. I am desperately trying to repair my cambridge audio 640 V2 CD player. The player powers on, reads CDs and is doing all its supposed to do apart from not delivering any output on the analogue output. I can only assume the fault is with DAC board as the transport seems fine even with the DAC bard removed.

The V1 and V2 look like very nice cd players when quickly looking at the circuit board. But unfortunatly there are some really poor components fitted to the pcb. But the good news is you can change these parts and lift the audio level much much further. Yes change those output caps for Black Gate N or similar, or bypass them completely.

The pictured above 640C Mk2 is not necessarily the best choice. 640 MK1 has one stereo DAC not two mono, which in my opinion is equal if we lampize it. Only for using output summation opamps the two DAC solution is better. The 640 C MK1 is IDENTICAL to the 540 C MK2. So that is a valid option as well. Read about the 540-2 way below.
