    There was a technical problem with my 500SE, so I returned it and upgraded to the Cambridge Audio Azur 640. Man, it's an awesome CD player. Better than the 500SE for my listening tastes. It's not as laid back as the 500SE, has stronger bass, and I'm hearing stuff on CDs that I didn't hear on the 500SE. Much more dynamic.

    Vertigo, you have even admitted that your $100 gamma DAC made a slight improvement to the sound of your Denon! The DAC in the 500Se was was originally conceived to play 192 kHz 24-bit DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD material! The 500Se should be compared to players in the Music Fidelity (xray)or Cal labs class, not a mass market Denon!

    the 500se is just a killer player, just amazing bang for the buck. Share Jul 3, ... but it's nothing special. Sure the HDCD feature is pretty cool but how many HDCD's do you own? And I wouldn't care much for the carousel either. For that money or just a little bit more you can also buy the Marantz CD6000 or a Cambridge Audio which sound MUCH ...
