Get Static and poor sound quality on Burned CDs in Windows Media Player. Only recently I've developed a problem with burning CDs on Windows Media Player. The CD has lots of static and the sound quality is poor. I'm using Memorex CD-RW disks which I have used in the past no problems at all. I've had my car CD player checked and it's fine.

Jul 29, 2007. #1. Hi, Well, I recently bought HP blank CDs to burn on and when I burned on them I got CDs with the songs on them, but with lots of static sounds during the music. I thought the problem might be the CDs, so I bought new Phillips blank CDs. Even these CDs, even though not as badly. When I play the CDs in the computer they sound ...

Took out my old CD-ROM and made the new burner the master drive. Hooked it all up using a new IDE cable. The first CD I burned (from MP3s) came out perfect… no problems. A week later I went to burn a Metallica CD for my friend (again MP3s downloaded from Kazaa) and now I get static and buzzing in the background. Its extremely annoying.

A bad burner sounds like the best bet. I had a dinosaur of a laptop once and tried to burn CDs into iTunes and WMP—because of what eventually was identified as an old CD burner with some problems, every song on every album had that staticky, scratchy, skippy noise over the whole track (although mostly the beginning and end).

I think the fact that they're only static when you try to play them is verification that they're not being converted. You can't burn hires audio files to audio CD, and I guess MB doesn't automatically convert them. Not being a burner, I couldn't tell you one way or the other. But at least the 'why is this static' question is diagnosed.
