    Sounds as if its an onboard sound. Realteks are the oft used device for this. I used it on mine, before I out my sound card back in, but didnt have any bioshock probs. Without knowing the OS its hard to sdat, but I would guess you are on Vista as you run Bioshock. Check the mobo chipset drivers are up to date, and Realtek drivers ditto.
