The VK 60 has fairly good bass, especially for a tubed amp of this power (120 in mono). The midrange is nice and the transition up the scale is smooth with no real anomolies. I think the midrange is the strength of this amplifier, which if an amplifier has a strong point related to the audible range is where a strength should be.

The VK-60 has three sets of output taps, matching speakers with high (nominally 8 ohm), medium (4-6 ohm), and low (3-4 ohm) impedances. BAT suggests experimentation to find out which of these is optimal for a given speaker. The Dunlavy SC-IV's impedance stays within the 4-6 ohm range, dipping to 3 ohms only in the very low bass.

Later-series VK-60 amplifiers can be factory-modified to SE status ($2500), incorporating the 6H30 tube. (The VK-60 cannot be updated to the VK-75.) Based on the differences I heard between the VK-75 and the VK-75SE, I would think this provides a very worthwhile upgrade path for VK-60 owners.
