If you have a web cam or modem attached to your computer Avid will read it as the primary sound card and so audio won't initialize. Unplug the web cam / modem and restart the computer. On some unsupported configurations, the Sound Card may not be compatible with the editing application.

Re: Hang on Initializing Media Streams Manager. Because Avid checks all the drives on system for its Avid Mediafiles folder. Normally a drive has that folder or doesn't so its a quick check. A card reader with no card loaded, when polled by the OS for its contents hangs and eventually the OS times out.
