I'm not even positive this is a problem with the avid so please bear with me. I'm digitizing from an AJ HD 1400 deck. I'm told there were 4 channels of audio recorded, 1 & 2 for music and 3 & 4 for dialogue. the first batch of tapes which only had 2 channels recorded (CH 3 & 4) digitized fine (came through on 1 & 2 in the avid).

Distorted Audio problem - Avid Community

The audio clip will play back fine in itunes but when played in the source monitor or record monitor it is distorted. Also importing and other audio clips into the source and record monitors results in distorted playback. The problem can be corrected if the audio levels are taken way down to about -10, however that is not a viable fix.
