The Slate cables give a detailed presentation and seem to work particularly well with the NAD / PMC set up. Obviously everyones view is subjective but if you have a similar system and want a clear and natural room filling sound with presence then give them a go. If you like listening to thumping bass on dance tracks then this cable may be too tame.

Slate wires were somewhat at a disadvantage because they were only single wired to my system vs. Bi-Wiring for nearly all of the other I auditioned. Even with that disadvantage, the Slates sounded outstanding! Very good separation of sound. Bass was excellent as was the midrange.

Anyway, based on the advise of this forum, I picked out the Audioquest Slate being closed out on Audio Advisor as being a relatively neutral to slightly warm cable. Normally a $260 cable, it currently sells for $90. Note this is the old "garden hose" style 8 conductor cable, not the paralleled four pair shown on AQ's web site.

The worst thing that could happen is a "muddy" sound or harsh mids and highs. I replaced a set of AQ 6+ cables in favor of these cables so that I could bi-wire my speakers. I have been happy with the performace to date, bought the Slate cables used and already broken in so they were an immediate improvement when added.

I'm having trouble discerning what is a good value cable for my budget. It looks like I need to be willing to go into the $300-$500 range. Audioquest Rocket 33 and Nordost White Lightning and Kimber 8TC seem to be appealing (though What HiFi gave the Audioquests a pretty poor review in 2008, for whatever that's worth).
