The directivity is a major strength for a nearfield monitor system. Because the driver itself is full range down to 200 Hz and planar waves are coherent (e.g. like a laser beam or LED panel compared to a light bulb), the nearfield listening position was full range with astonishing detail and without room artifacts.

My setup serves double duty of being used primarily nearfield (4 ft from speakers), but also occasionally with volume turned up to play into a 10x15 ft room. Speakers are 1 ft in front of a bay window, and 3 ft from side walls. I've been trying several speakers and have been using Harbeth P3ESRs for the past month.

If you prefer more colored sound, get some sort of DSP or EQ in your system, but if I were you I would give it some time to "break in" your ears and get them accustomed to the more accurate and neutral reproduction. I myself use Genelec 6010As for this purpose. 3 level 2

A good audiophile speaker should should nice, neutral, punchy and non-fatiguing. Unfortunately, I have not come across many of either that give me the sound I like. For studio monitors maybe an old Tannoy Gold monitor, a Westlake design or two, Harbeth 40's, Kevin Gray's system, etc. Audiophile speakers usually err on the side of TOO MUCH DETAIL.
