The 2013-2018 period building up to their implementation look really complicated to do anything but an OEM replacement. 2000-2010 on the other hand... all I can say is WOW are the options better than what is in brand new cars. Simply put, there's no money in it. Let's say Kenwood (example) can profit $18 on the BT318U and $150 on some high-end audiophile unit. Well, they can sell 500 BT318Us to one audiophile unit. Why bother? It's sad for folks like us, but the masses have spoken clearly. Just give me something cheap that can play my 128kbps MP3s and changes color.

For a true audiophile and wants to listen to high quality music but don’t have the space to store the bulky CDs, recommended using FLAC. The Alpine head unit has the FLAC info written in the user manual that it doesn’t support FLAC with sample rate over 48khz, so anything higher than that can’t be played by the HU.
