The Audiolab brings more heft and coherence to recordings: it's not a night and day sort of difference, but it's real and it is a positive change within my audio system. That said, if you are happy with your current set up or if you feel like your DAC might be a potential weak link, then perhaps you should hold the course for now.

Audiolab 6000CDT | Hi-Fi Choice

The Audiolab seems to have a lot of control, putting out an orderly recorded acoustic with everything in its correct place, separated out nicely from other strands of the mix. In absolute terms higher end transports do better, with a real ‘out-of-the-box’ feeling, but this is still impressive nonetheless.

Over the last year or so, I’ve become a big fan of Audiolab’s affordable 6000 series components. There are three pieces in the line. First is the 6000A, a highly capable $999 integrated amp, which is on my Recommended Components list (my review). Then there’s the $549 6000N Play DTS‌ Play-Fi streamer, which I named…

Audiolab 8300 Series | Hi-Fi Choice

    https://www.hifichoice.com/content/audiolab-8300-series
The Audiolab CD player is obviously a step or two down from the dCS DAC, but still doesn’t embarrass itself. There’s a sense that it’s very detailed and intricate sounding, but again – like many digital sources using ESS Sabre DAC chips – has a slightly dry tonality that doesn’t quite run the full spectrum of tonal colour.

Audiolab 6000CDT CD Transport | Steve Hoffman Music …

I have to say kudo's to Audiolab not just for making a straight up CD transport, which seems commercially fairly foolish, but making one that's dirt cheap. I have zero use for a CD transport, or CDs, but plenty still do and most dedicated transports you see are pretty pricey. Enjoy yours! jonwoody, Jul 12, 2019 #4
