Audiolab M-DAC is, IMO, best among Rega DAC, MF M1 DAC, Pioneer N-50 (which is a streamer + DAC). However the pre-amp section is really the weak link. It is there to give the added flexibility but will never match any true pre-amp. With M-DAC as DAC+pre you loose depth, dynamics and soundstage.. alot.

An Audiolab MDAC was proudly produced by its new owner. And was duly compared against my own TEN Audio-ed Marantz CD48 (valve output stage added) and my MHZS CD88 cdp (valved, also). Both had cost me about £250 each. We all agreed as to the relative merits. To say that the owner of the MDAC was distressed would be an understatement.

After much thought, deliberation, confusion & reading, I m close to purchasing some hi-fi. My budget will be up to £3k. For an amp I m considering Quad 909 connected directly to Audiolab s new MDAC as reviews seem to be positive for both items.
