Audiolab says its power consumption is 15W in use, and less than 0.5W in standby mode. It loads discs smoothly, isn’t noisy while doing so, and then reads the CD’s table of contents speedily. This done, it offers swiff track access – maybe not quite up there with a top-class nineties Sony player, for example, but way better than many modem rivals.

The Audiolab 6000CDT is a specialist you see. That’s the difference here. It’s designed to do one job. It does it superbly. OK, so how in sonic terms? First off is the soundstage. This is the place that contains the music. This is where the music comes from. Get this framework right and the quality of the music will have more chance to shine.

Audiolab CDT 6000 Compact Disc Transport - Review Seems like there's a few companies still doing CD Transports, Cambridge have one too which appears to be broadly similar to this one from 1980's favourite, Audiolab, which I bought new for £380 a couple of months back. The Audiolab 6000CDT CD transport retails for $549.99, but from the fit and finish of the case to the feel of the controls to the bright OLED display -- and just like the 6000A integrated-DAC -- it looks and feels like a component that costs twice, maybe even thrice the price.

The third is the product I’m writing about today, the $549 Audiolab 6000CDT CD Transport. While CD’s have almost gone the way of the dodo bird, many audiophiles like myself keep a bunch of their favorites around for relaxed listening sessions. Two CDs I‌ can’t live without are Steely Dan’s “Aja”‌ and Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumors.”

Last week I heard the Audiolab CDT/6000A combo at Richer and it sounded very good, but I didn't hear any issues of the sort you describe. Shame as I was thinking of getting one (second system). Will investigate further - maybe loan one from Richer. gibbsy Moderator Nov 13, 2018 #6 ade123a said:

The Audiolab does even better. I just cannot hear it, even sticking my ear next to the mechanism (same as that in the 8300CD I believe). Extremely impressive. Track access is quick and the transport responds reasonably quickly to direct track access requests (i.e. going directly from 6 to 1, or 2 to 5, etc). I'm really very impressed so far.
