The Audiolab 8000AP is an interesting unit. It combines great aesthetics and a small form factor into a rock solid package. It is not going to win a “battle of the silk-screened logos”, but then I find many of those logos irrelevant for my own day-to-day use.

Having owned the Audiolab 8000A series III for a number of years I can give, I hope, a reasonably accurate account of it. I bought it at the time for its accuracy - being partnered with a mildly warm Philips CD850 and mildly forward Tannoy 613's. In reality, it is mildly coloured. Mid range is slightly forward and hi treble is rolled back.

Audiolab replaced it with a brand new unit which I was happy about. Anyway, the new unit worked fine to begin with but ran extremely hot (I'm talking electric heater hot). After a few months of use, the unit started to produce a very loud crackle though the right channel every 10 mins or so. It was sent back to the factory once again.
