Audiolab 8000A Amplifiers user reviews : 4.4 out of 5 - 37 ...

Having owned the Audiolab 8000A series III for a number of years I can give, I hope, a reasonably accurate account of it. I bought it at the time for its accuracy - being partnered with a mildly warm Philips CD850 and mildly forward Tannoy 613's. In reality, it is mildly coloured. Mid range is slightly forward and hi treble is rolled back.

The 8000A has pre out and power in jacks and can be used as a pre or a power amp. To be used as a preamp, simply connect to a power amp. The pre and power sections are connected internally. To be used as a power amp, this connection needs to be removed. With this done, the pre and power sections can operate independantly. paulfoly3c96 OP 3 posts

Its crisp ergonomics, high-quality engineering, useful range of facilities and excellent all-round sound won it a legion of fans, cementing its place as one of the British hi-fi scene's most significant products. 25 years on …

I am a proud new owner of a pair of used Magnepan 3.6Rs. Up to two days ago I run these with an old Audiolab 8000a, and thought it sounded great. Yesterday I tried a friend’s Syrus 8vs2 and was amazed at the improvement. I am now convinced that all the talk about matching an amp is real. So I am now eager to find the right amp. Any suggestions will be …

6000A Integrated Amplifier From Audiolab - The Audiophile Man

    https://theaudiophileman.com/6000a-integrated-amplifier-review-audiolab/
The Audiolab 6000A is a later design to the 8300A, yet it uses the same DAC chip, the ESS Sabre 9018. It is a missed opportunity as the respected ESS Sabre 9038 was available for inclusion in the 6000A. Although a DAC chip is only part of the digital circuit, the later design is recognised as being superior musically to the 9018. ...

Audiolab 8000LX Integrated Amplifiers user reviews : 4.8 ...

I had to take back a Audiolab 8000A to the shop because it had trapped my headphone jack, and ended up with this new model instead. To me its sounds even better than the A, it has bags of power (60w) and the soundstaging is shimmeringly good, but it still has plenty of bass when required (unlike the Marantz PM66 Ki sig).
