Having owned the Audiolab 8000A series III for a number of years I can give, I hope, a reasonably accurate account of it. I bought it at the time for its accuracy - being partnered with a mildly warm Philips CD850 and mildly forward Tannoy 613's. In reality, it is mildly coloured. Mid range is slightly forward and hi treble is rolled back.

The 8000A is an extremely revealing amplifier and this attribute of it made some say its bright or unpleasant in the upper midrange and treble, especially when used with a low cost or older model CD players. When I "upgraded" to the 8000S, things improved drastically with regards CD playback.

The model is a MK1, grey, with nickel RCAs. Initial findings were that the 8000A takes at least an hour to warm up before it sounds as it should. It has actually been taking more like two hours before the sound opened up for me. Before this time, the amp sounds flat and lifeless. Maybe users that criticise the amp haven't let it warm up?

Audiolab 8000A/8000P Amplifier review and test

Audiolab 8000A/8000P Amplifier This pair of the British amplifiers was not quite "correct" two-block amplifier. And if in reality 8000P is a power amp, the "preamp" 8000A is a complete integrated amplifier which acts in this configuration as a preliminary one.

Reviewed Feb 26th, 2019 by studio Remarkable design way ahead of its time. It has speed, prat, transparency, clean detail and most importantly - accurately deep bass. Many amps have been in and out of my music room in the last 25yrs, some costing near 10grand, I ended keeping the 8000a. This is a marvelous British amp built to last!

Audiolab 8000DAC DAC review, test, price

Cambridge Systems Technology, trade name Audiolab, has always espoused a philosophy of continual, low-key product development. The 8000A integrated amplifier with which the company made its debut has progressed through many subtle and not-so subtle revisions, but without there ever being an 8000A Mk II, GTi or Turbo. In fact, most of the ...

The revived Audiolab name has also seen a revival of some familiar-looking model names, but the most famous of those, the 8000A, is replaced by the 8000S. The new model is basically a fully ...

Audiolab 8000S review - What Hi-Fi

The specs say only a modest 60 watts per channel, but in practice the Audiolab readily drives price-compatible speakers to decent volumes. Listen elsewhere for rhythm Flaws? This is no rhythm machine. It fails to cohere like Roksan's Kandy does, and the 8000S also lacks authority at the lowest frequencies, sounding overly crisp in the wrong system.

When Audiolab launched the iconic 8000A in 1983, it swiftly became Britain's favourite 'step-up' from the budget amps of the time. Its crisp ergonomics, high-quality engineering, useful range of facilities and excellent all-round sound won it a legion of fans, cementing its place as one of the British hi-fi scene's most significant products. 25 years on …

Audiolab 6000A Play review | What Hi-Fi?

    https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/audiolab-6000a-play
Play Kanye West’s Blood On The Leaves and the Audiolab isn’t short of punch and attack, and it also has a copious and well-controlled low-end presence. It’s an arresting rendition, the assault of horns is authoritative, the raw synths are cutting, and both West’s auto-tuned rap and Nina Simone’s vocal samples are sharp and lucid.
