When we first heard the S8, we were impressed by its compact, weighty, loud and proud sound. Listening to the unmistakeable rumble of the Batmobile in The Dark Knight, there's still plenty of weight and it goes reasonably deep, but there's a definite flabbiness to bass notes and a lack of tonal definition.

Audioengine S8 Subwoofer review - Blogger

The S8 is a small, nice looking 8" Sub with a port. The speaker fires down with a front mounted flared port. Build quality is excellent. It has a 250 watt class AB amp with adjustable crossover from 50-130Hz. It weighs 30 pounds and looks very nice in a utilitarian sort of way, with very nicely beveled edges and a nice, opaque black finish.

Need advice: Cambridge Audio Minx X201 vs …

    https://www.avforums.com/threads/need-advice-cambridge-audio-minx-x201-vs-audioengine-s8w-vs-focal-cab3.2315191/
I narrowed my choices down to Cambridge Audio Minx X201 or Audioengine S8W. The same price ($350), probably similar performance. Both from reliable dealers. Also see a Focal Cab3 sub for $299. I do not need a lot of power, just low-end frequencies that Xeos cannot reproduce. I like to listen to classical music, Disco, jazz.

The Audioengine A2+ are extremely WELL engineered speakers for their size. The problem is the manufacturer only provides you with a "get the job done" set of cables to get them going. You can sub out all the connectors they give you to increase the quality of sound. Also, break in period for the drivers is a thing.
