Audioengine has more powerful deeper yet natural and clean treble. Swan has brighter yet thinner/lighter and crisper treble. Audioengine is way more natural though. I prefer audioengine here. Mids: AE is balanced and neutral. Swans are mid forward but only very slightly which I do like. Some stuff is cleaner/crisper on Swan than on AE which is like.

AudioEngines A5 will sound the best, and have front volume knob. Port is on the back. A2 is the smallest, and has front port, volume on the back. (deal killer for me) Swans M200 (not the MkII) is back facing port and front volume knob. I have a set, nice laid back speakers. These work well with my vocal and jazz centered music library.

The Swan M10 suffers a similar problem. Frequncies around 80hz were played louder which makes it sound somewhat boomy. The Audioengine has a warm and natural timbre while the Swan M10 has a bright and analytical timbre.
