Audio Technica M2.....now SHURE PSM700's | The Gear Page

Yeah, after checking out some of my options, there was no question that last years Shure's blew everything current out of the water. The 700's are a metal box vs. plastic, plus the specs in general were just better on the Shure's. I'd love to buy the new PSM1000's, or even the PSM900's, but I can't justify the price that it would cost me.

PSM300 has 24 bit digital audio, the sound quality is definitely top notch. I didn't have a PSM200, but went from Audio Technica M2 which was comparable to PSM200 when I bought it, and the difference was night and day. Randy

Overall, the Audio-Technica M2 and M3 wireless systems offer great sound and performance (though the lack of limiting in certain situations is a concern). They offer good value, even taking the included EP3 earbuds out of the equation. If price is a concern, the M2 sacrifices just a bit of convenience to shave off $300.

New Shure digital IEMs coming out (PSM300) : livesound

In the sub-1K$ segment, you got the Shure PSM200 (and now the PSM300) and the Audio-Technica M2 and M3, and that's it. (Edit: forgot about the budget options like Carvin or Galaxy) The PSM200 suffers from no stereo option, and lack of frequency agility, also internet comments seem to imply the sound quality is just so.

My wireless kit is an Audio-Technica M2 which is just a bit above the PSM200 (audio specs are similar, but it's dual channel so I can balance between my 2 inputs on the beltpack, we use one for the metronome). The IEM upgrade has made a very noticeable improvement. Still gonna upgrade to the PSM300 at some point.

Lexington, Massachusetts. Jeez, there's quite a wide difference between a Shure M44-7, Audio Technica AT440MLb, Ortofon OM5E and Ortofon 2M Blue. The Shure will have the beefiest sound but with less detail due the conical stylus, and the AT will be very detailed and precise, but somewhat forward/clinical.
