I read that if the tracking force is messed up it can cause this issue on the LP120, and to test it brush your finger against the stylus to see if you get sound from both channels, and I do not. In fact, I unscrewed the headshell with my headphones on and once removed I also only got buzzing from the right channel and nothing from the left.

OpenStart, enter Sound, select it from the list of results, and then, on the Playback tab, select a device, then Set Default. If your Drivers are up to date, then the problem would be the compatibility of Audio-Technica AT-LP120 to your computer, and not the software. We suggest you to seek assistance with Dell support for further help. Regards.

Your Sony does not have a phono input and it sounds as though you nevertheless aren't using the TT's internal pre-amp (I did read your post). Please check that you have set the AT-LP120's "PRE-AMP SELECTOR SWITCH" to LINE, not PHONO.

I set it up as-per the instructions (and a few Youtube videos), balanced the arm and set the tracking force and antiskate. I should add here I'm a relative turntable newbie, only having owned a Technics SL-BD22 in the past.
