ATH-M50 bass isn't as smooth and deep as MDR-7506. ATH-M50 has a little more bass boost and boom than the MDR-7506, hiding the very deepest bass more audible with MDR-7506. The E6 is a super cheap budget portable amp but EQ settings on it worked great with my M50's.

Mani ATH 87. The M50's benefit from an amp because the bass is bloated. It isn't overwhelming, but it bleeds into the mids somewhat, the sub bass has nice extension but the mid bass is a bit muddy. An amp tends to tighten up the mid bass on the M50's so that it has more punch and sounds a bit more natural.
