It was in a noisy exhibit hall, but all three headphones were plugged into the same source. All three sounded quite fantastic. Low end extension is excellent without boominess or muddiness.

I have compared these to the ATH M35 and the ATH M50, and I like these a little better. I initially liked the M35 and M50 better, but after using the three over several weeks with many different amps and receivers, and with dozens of different types of music, I find I can make more of my music sound great working with the M40fs.
