The bass on the A900X was tight and alive (but not muddy and overpowering), unlike my HD280s which had very weak bass that made music lack a certain kind of fullness. The mids on the A900X is quite rich, making guitar, drums and vocals truly pleasurable to listen to. My HD280s had honky mids that I had to lower using an equalizer.

The A900X is on the lower end of the spectrum. The pads are much, much more stiff than real lambskin leather. The pleather used on higher end headphones like the HE-560 is much more soft, very close to real leather. The pads also touch my ears slightly, which can get annoying but never painful.

The midsection of the A900X is clear, detailed and slightly more forward than the bass response. The treble is very nimble and articulate and is allowed to extend and breathe effortlessly due to a fantastically open and spacious soundstage. It is really easy to forget folks that this is actually a closed and not an open headphone.
