Studio Projects C1 So what do you think of the Studio Projects C1? I have read that with EQ it can be made to sound very much like a U87. A lot of people always refer the Audio Technica range but the big name voice talents don't even mention them. Perhaps they are more for instrumental and sung vocals rather than spoken vocals.

the studio projects sound lumpy, not sophisticated at all, and I found the MXL990 in the same €range to be a lot better. no comparison possible with any others I fumbled a bit with the eq on my desk, and the clear winner is the AT4047, if you go for a warm balanced sound.

at4033 vs. at4040 - HomeRecording.com

I like my 4040 a lot. It's clean and relatively flat. I have a C1 and it tends to add a lot of high end comparatively. That being said, I like how my NTK is warm and has a little something more in the mids and low for my voice. Remember that the 4033 and the 4040 are very different mics. The 4033 is an MDC and the 4040 is LDC.
