The AE5400 is a remarkable live microphone and it IS incredibly possibly to get incredible studio vocals out of them, but it's not going to replace the AT4050. The AE5400 has a nice coloring to it that, if you look at the frequency curve, is designed to reduce sibilance, and emphasize presence and warmth. OVERALL OPINION

Good mic. Probably overemphasizes the lower end of my voice (I am a baritone). Not very clear at the low end of the spectrum but overall it sounds very very good. Some singers might appreciate this boost of the low notes.

The AE5400 does it. Full-body sound, crisp high's, lots of detail (I sing jazz and pop for grown-ups), and it just feels nice and solid when handling. I've used it on only one gig so far, but at first blush, it's a total winner. A colleague sat in on my gig (awesome vocalist!) and he sounded amazing on this mic too.

From front-of-house the AE5400 works beautifully on good voices of either gender with a rich quality to the bottom end, a complete lack of harshness across the mids and high-mids and a nice amount of airy top end. It’s much brighter than a 58 but not strident, pulling the voice forward with its clear and accurate presence.

Regardless, the mic is very directional, present and clear, delivering a rich sound that is transparent and true of the source. The AE5400 hits any expectations out of the park. In appearance, it’s another live vocal mic, but in action it’s a feature-filled, easy-to-use condenser with a myriad of functions.

Audio-Technica AE3300 or AE5400 - difference? - Craig ...

The 5400 is close, but I don't find it overly bright, it is a condensor, and most of the 40 series AT mics are a tad crispy.. sure. The 4054 or 5400 are both the AT4050 capsule in the cardio handheld body. Something about putting these into the handheld makes them sound slightly different, the 3300 gets better, the 5400/4054 is close.
