Audio Technica AT-95E Review - VintageSonics

The AT-95E has the advantage of being better than it should be for the price. A decent tonearm produces a sound that is reasonably detailed, fluid, and musical. It has a good turn of speed, a pleasingly sharp and expansive treble, and a supple bass. …

Sonically, it was light, bright and detailed sounding, with a surprisingly smooth and tidy treble considering its price thanks to a decent elliptical stylus. Linn even sold versions of its spherical stylus-equipped AT-93 little brother as its Basik starter cartridge. The AT-95E and its derivatives were everywhere you looked, back in the day.

The body has been designed to reduce resonance and feels a whole lot more substantial than the original AT-95E. As well as feeling more solid, it has threaded inserts so you can simply screw two bolts into the AT-VM95E to attach it to the headshell, making it easier to fit than any Audio-Technica cartridge I’ve used before.

Sonically the AT95E is actually a pretty good cartridge with an even frequency response with good extension at both ends. Audio-Technica AT-VM530EN Review - VintageSonics

It’s a neat, sharp, and detailed piece with a good deal of finesse and a noticeable rhythmic snap. The tonal balance is also recognizable; you won’t get something that’s either too bright or too dark. Instead, this cartridge takes a middle ground approach, however it may be marginally smoother than previous budget cartridges from this company.

hruki: AT3401 or AT3450L. I.e., that light grey needle was a low compliance/high tracking force variant in the AT(N)3400/3450 family (to which the AT(N)93 and AT(N)95E(X)) also belong. So I'd agree with pp - not really interesting, unless you'd need an AT3400/3450 family body for whatever reason. Greetings from Munich! Manfred / lini

Finally got the a replacement cartridge as a replacement for my AT33 PTG/II with a failed coil. After some internal debate, I made a shortlist of: Hana ML Audio Technica ART9 (old version) / ART9XI / ART XA (both launched Nov 20) Benz Wood I decided on the ART9, but it really is hard to fine two reviews that aren't contradictory.
