Both Plex and PS3 media server have terrible skipping/stuttering when streaming movies to PS3 I have tried both pieces of software to stream from my PC (1 1/2 year old gaming PC, intel i5) but it takes a long time for the stream to start and when it does the movie pauses every few seconds.

The PS3 Media Server buffer is not large enough (max of 400Mb), and it also seems seems to completely empty sometimes before any new material is added, which will cause a temporary lag. Depending on the format of the videos your watching, the Media Server has to transcode the video in a format the PS3 will understand.

Could always tyr going into PS3 media server transcode settings and limiting bandwidth. You will suffer a slight quality loss but may make stremaing more fluid. Failin that Homeplugs will sort it but I'd test it with a wired conenction first to prove that bandwidth is definitely the problem before shelling out for homeplugs.
