Both reviewers nailed it concerning the RTI4. The sound these bookshelf speakers produce is very coherent and musical with excellent balance.The soundstaging and imaging are very good as well. The mid-range is gorgeous and the highs are very detailed and sweet!! Bass is excellent for a bookshelf speaker.

The Polk Audio RTi4 put out a strong mid-range sound for the size. They are being used with a basic stereo set up on 22 inch high stands. The price was right. For the size, they put out a sharp, crisp, full sound for my classical and jazz music, but they don't have that WOW factor in that you don't "feel" the music.

For surround sound setups or bookshelf speakers matched with a subwoofer, the Polk Audio RTi4 is a fantastic speaker vs the RTi6. The RTi4's 5.25" driver produces better imaging, sounds more detailed, and the midrange is slightly more focused. Also, the RTi4 sounds more muscial while the tweeter sounded nearly identical.

The RTi4 has handled everything I have thrown at them, rock, R&B, country, classical, etc. They only fall short on the very deepest notes. If you are a big rap fan (not me) or are using them in a home theater setting then I strongly recommend adding a subwoofer.

Another interesting feature of RTi4 is very low crossover frequency of bands (1900 Hz, filters are of second order). This model is a bit inferior to larger RTi6 by dynamical qualities, but does not lose to competitors. RTi4 sounds freely, dynamics is good throughout the range, the detailing of playing is at a good level too.
