Audio Research DAC8 review | What Hi-Fi?

Like an increasing number of DACs, this Audio Research product will accept signals up to high-resolution 24Bit/192kHz level. To do this through the unit’s USB 2.0 input, though, you’ll need to download driver software specific to the DAC 8. It’s a simple enough process and relatively painless as far as these things go. The DAC 8 is large.

The DAC8 eschews a conventional display to confirm the sample rate and selected input via glowing diodes. The USB path naturally offers user-selectable upsampling by way of after-market media players to experiment with sending the ARC deck higher sampling rates. (Mac users can achieve the same with Amarra or PureMusic for just two options).

ARCDB

Audio Research has maximized the USB capability of the DAC8 by incorporating USB 2.0 HS (High Speed) which runs at 480Mbps. USB 2.0 HS has a lower jitter specification than USB 2.0 FS (Full Speed 12mbps), consequently the DAC8 is capable of reproducing music at higher definition/resolution (up to 24/192) than products communicating at USB 2.0 FS speeds (24/96).

TAS Audio Research DAC8 review - DAC - Digital to …

    https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/12826-tas-audio-research-dac8-review/
The DAC8 is very dynamic and engaging, with an deep and wide soundstage yet excellent focus of the instruments and voices. While the BDA-1 may be a little smoother on the top end, it achieves this with a smaller soundstage, less focus and reduced dynamics, in my opinion. Overall, the DAC8 is the more engaging presentation and the one I prefer.
