You need to go component to receiver, then component from receiver to tv. A lot of the newer receivers will upconvert, from component to HDMI, but not the other way around. You're maxed out, as you said. If the tv is only 720p, the component is giving you that anyway. Sep 23, 2009 #3 of 7 Jeff Gatie Senior HTF Member Joined Aug 19, 2002 Messages

Your AVR should feed everything into component-out to the TV. If it doesn't have HDMI, it is highly unlikely that it does 1080p anyway, which would likely be the most compelling reason to want HDMI here. If it is only 1080i, then feeding component from all your devices should be perfectly fine as mentioned above. M markw Audioholic Overlord

nearly all TVs will not properly strip out 5.1 from an HDMI input and then output them over the audio outputs on them. You should run all of your audio/video through the receiver if possible as it is vastly simpler. And with all of the HDCP stuff in place now ensures you get the fewest conflicts and full benefits of Blu-ray HD audio sources.

So I plug the HDMI cable from the Receiver's HDMI Out port to the TV's HDMI 1 port. DirecTV box goes into receiver HDMI In. Works great. But now I need to connect my Xbox 360. It has no HDMI, it's component video only. So I plug that into the back of the receiver but when I flip through the inputs on the receiver I get nothing on the TV.
