This problem is also independant of what video player I use (windows media centre and windows media player classic) After a minute or so the display cuts out and the audio quickly follows it. Suffice to say, I was a little annoyed but knowing a good bit about computers I decided to try and solve the problem taking the following steps.

The problem (video playback freeze) occurs after computer gets asleep and then wakes up. Before entering into the sleep mode everything works just fine. After waking up DVD playback and other video starts to freeze (video freezes but sound is okay). It is solved by restarting the system. There were also other multiple problems with video freezing:

Windows 7 64-bit. NVIDIA GTX 1080 Classified ACX 3.0. 5 minutes into any iTunes movie, the video will freeze on multiple frames, while audio continues. After a couple of seconds, video and audio play normally for a while and then the problem repeats, and repeats, and repeats about every 5 minutes. I have booted iTunes in safe mode.
