Transformers for Audio

Distortion - mainly affecting low frequencies, due to core saturation at high levels or hysteresis losses at low levels (any frequency) Limited bandwidth - for a variety of reasons, transformers will always have problems with very low and very high frequencies

Valve Amps: Output transformers - Lenard Audio

The output transformer is the heart of a valve amplifier. The right pic shows a stereo Leak amplifier. The two output trannys are rotated 90deg to the power mains tranny to avoid picking up induced hum from the mains tranny external magnetic field. Output trannys contribute most of the distortion in a valve amp and have a limited bandwidth.

Audio Transformers

In audio transformer applications, magnetic saturation causes low-frequency harmonic distortion to increase steadily for low-frequency signals as they increase in level beyond a threshold. In general, materials with a higher permeability tend to saturate at a lower flux density. In general, permeability also varies inversely with frequency.

Audio Transformer - Engineers Garage

    https://www.engineersgarage.com/audio-transformer/
AUDIO TRANSFORMERS- FUNCTIONS Like any other transformer, audio transformer comprises of a primary winding, secondary winding and the core and the primary function of an audio transformer is to couple the energy from the primary windings to the secondary without introducing any distortion.

Audio Transformer - Transformers - Electronics Surplus

PICO - C3187 Transformer, Audio. Audio transformers are low-power signal devices optimized for transmission of wide-frequency AC signals with very low distortion. The transformer has no direct connection between the primary and secondary windings, the electrical energy transferred using electromagnetic induction.

Chapter 5: Understanding Impedance In Audio Transformers

ImpedanceIn Audio Transformers Introduction The term “impedance” is the backbone of all things audio, fundamental to understanding how an AC circuit be-haves in respect to its input source and output load. For those new to electrical theory, all audio signals are AC, or …

Some tubes will state the audio transformer suggested impedance at typical 5% distortion. No suggestion of an audio transformer seems to exist anywhere for the 201A. I am using a 5K to 8 ohm transformer but getting a little distortion. My speaker is 3.2 ohm so tube is seeing 2.5K for now. I bought 8 ohm replacement speaker to get back to 5K.
