ulimit -l unlimited logout. Now logout of your user and login again. Now open the terminal and type. ulimit -l. It should now say unlimited. Now type: ardour3 and it should probably work well. I find opening ardour from the terminal very advantageous because I get detailed log. I also had to add my current user to the audio group btw

Setting the memlock limit to unlimited (or -1) is usually part of this process. How you should do this will depend on your distro.
