Polk Audio LSi15 Floor standing speakers review and test Polk Audio LSi15 Floor standing speakers The appearance of Polk Audio LSi15 cases mixed emotions. The bodies styled under black piano lacquer look expensive and respectable, but the finish of side panels, which a 20-cm woofer is built into, reminds a vinyl film.

Great imaging and depth for the LSi15, Lsi9, and LSi7. Each of these sets were evaluated as stereo pairs first in my setup and as the speaker size increased so did the sound of the base of course. The LSi15 being the best on the bass end versus the LSi7. The LSi9 are very good and could be a good choice for fronts also, with sub woofer.

They are a thing of beauty. As far sound quality, paired with powerful amp that can handle 4 ohm, these LSi15s will easily compete with speakers costing three or four times as much. As for amps, I recommend NAIM (if you can afford them), Ayre, Rotel, Adcom, Parasound; if you want to stay below $1,000, check out the Emotiva XPA-2 (with a pre).

LSi15 does an amazing job in delivering music with subtle details, crisp clarity and 3D sound image. I had a pair of Polk floor speakers I bought many years ago and thought about upgrading to something audiophile quality speakers. So I researched and bought this LSi15 after reading lots of positive reviews. Man, this is a right decision.

Polk Audio LSi-15's. Well I had them since they came out (around the year 2001). I have upgraded substantially around them over the years and they impress me more with age really. The sound is a tad bit warm in some cases but the detail and depth of presentation of such inexpensive floorstanders means I get what I paid for.

The one thing about the LSi15s is that you need an amp with a high damping factor to control the woofer on the speaker, otherwise they may sound a little loose on the bottom end. So, you almost certainly want to drive them with a solid state amp. Prior to having the R200i, I drove them with a Perreaux 200iP.

The LSi15 claim to go down to 22 hz, but I want it to get there and speak it loudly! I know I will one day have to get a better sub, but really I am looking for a mid-fi setup with maybe one or two fantastic pieces added each year. My first purchase, for example, will be a better amp like the Denon 4306 or 4806.

The LSi15s are the hardest to drive supposedly because the LSi25 already has a built-in amp for the woofer (That's why it's called a subwoofer?) The LSi15 has a passive 8" woofer that has to be driven along with the midrange/tweeter. And, yes, they are PRETTY damn hard to drive! But plug in some competent equipment, and you will have great sound. P
