Audio or linear taper pots? What’s the difference ...

A LINEAR taper pot increases the signal in a linear fashion. (“1” on your control is equal to 10%, “4” is equal to 40% and so forth) This works very different from an audio taper volume pot. For those looking for a smooth, …

Potentiometers: Audio vs. Linear Tapers

    https://www.jameco.com/Jameco/workshop/circuitnotes/Potentiometers-audio-taper-vs-linear.html
In a linear taper the relative position is equal to the resistance ratio. For example, rotating the potentiometer to 50% will cause the pot to function at 50% of the maximum resistance. Linear tapers can be good for adjusting lighting through light dimmers or for motion control. Non-linear tapers are often referred to as a logarithmic or audio ...

What are Audio Taper Potentiometers?

    http://www.learningaboutelectronics.com/Articles/What-are-audio-taper-potentiometers
Audio taper potentiometers are the potentiometers that are used for volume control in audio devices. This includes headphones, headsets, computer speakers, or any volume-altering devices. The main thing differentiating audio taper potentiometers from others is that audio taper potentiometers are log tapers. Most potentiometers used are linear ...

Re: Audio Taper vs. Linear Taper (whats what) and Cap Questions... I wish there was a taper between audio and linear. If there is, please tell me! I use my volume knob to go from mid-gain dirty to clean. With linear taper I find the change between 10 and 3 to be barely noticable - all the "cleaning up" happens between 3 and 0.

Tone Pots: Audio or Linear taper? | The Tone Rooms

I'm the opposite, I like Linear for the volume & audio taper for tone. I do have Linear tone controls on my SG & can live with (too lazy to change them out). I like Linear volume controls (with humbuckers) so the roll off isn't all crowded in the 7-10 range, giving finer control over how hard I'm hitting the front of the amp.

linear taper v. audio taper pots? | Telecaster Guitar Forum

Tone pots should always be log/audio taper. I use linear taper vol pots because I want a fine control going down from 10. I nearly always have the vol rolled back to 6-8, I set up the amp with it at 5. This may sound like a long way but it is not on a linear pot. On a linear pot the 50% position is 5. On a log pot the 50% position is near 8.

Audio or Linear taper tone pots?? | Gretsch-Talk Forum

The stock (audio taper) pot was only usable from about 0-5 but the linear will be all the way from 0-10. To make it clearer, a linear pot has a smooth, even change in resistance as you turn the knob. 2 will be about 20% of the total resistance, 4 will be 40%, 6 will be 60%, etc.
