    Using a separate audio interface on the 2nd computer is really the only reliable way to go. You do not mention which firewire audio interface you are using. If it has at a least a stereo AES or SPDIF on it then get a 2 or 4 channels USB or FW audio interface for the mastering computer since I assume you are juts working with stereo on that side.
