The Reference 5.2 built in 4 pcs PCM1704UK which is cost USD 48 /pc from TI and USD70 / pc from market , cause the Reference 5.2 price costly than NFB-17.2 , and we can't confirm when it will discontinued . The NFB-17.2 sound : "Neutral but smoothness sounding ,it doesn't sound skeletal or digital (or metallic).

If your system is already laid back and neutral (like Audio GD amps and preamp combos) adding a Reference 7,5 or older DAC 19 varieties to the mix will likely put you to sleep. Trust me, I tried. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Audio GD 1704 DACS are better performers in headphone systems than they are in speaker set ups.

There is no "hardware issue" with TE8802 , there is an driver issue depending on many things , not all user will have problem some only , and it's a minority . But even if it's a minority there is many complaining about it , enough to switch to "usb 32"

It's early days so I'll come back and update this review later, but having just picked up and tested out my new NFB-5.2 I'm very impressed! Out of the box, the sound from the NFB-5.2 is clean, well separated and layered and laid on a beautifully dark background. Every sound steps forward beautifully through each set of headphones I've tried so far.

My Video Review: I still remember it clearly when Audio-GD announced that they bought the latest batches of the best commercial made DAC chips from Burr-Brown, the legendary PCM1704 chips that everyone wanted to have in their digital sources. That news had a twofold effect on me. On one hand I was happy for them as the PCM1704 always had a strong …

Audio-gd Reference 10.2 DAC/pre-amp/head-amp (TONEAudio review) by John Darko July 19, 2012, 11:21. I’ve reviewed Audio-gd’s PCM1704-infused Reference 7.1 DAC and I’ve covered their C39-MK3 pre-amplifier. What happens when Kingwa gene-splices the two* together and adds a dedicated headphone stage to form the Reference 10.2?

If a larger soundstage with bass is what you crave, something bi-polar, open backed, omni-polar or similar might fit the bill. Tekton and Ohm seem to have a lot of bass and a big sound for the $$$. Salk and Selah will do custom or semi-custom stuff. In that price range you might want to consider the Spatial Audio X3.
