    Just drag the file over to the left and put it in the "tracks" section (as shown in photo below). If you don't see the "tracks" section, double click your curse on the left side of the screen. You can also just make a mono audio tack and drag it onto that. If Pro tools is splitting your audio file onto two tracks, its because you are trying to put a stereo file onto a mono track (super annoying, I know).
