The Cary AE-3 comes in two models, the base unit and the DJH signature model. The DJH model is tube rectified also. Warmth, lush, bold sound. It is a new version of the AES-AE3 called the DJH (Dennis Had) signature. It is $1200 or $1700 with a remote. I have been listening to it with an Odyssey Stratos Amp and Newform Research R645's over the weekend.

This preamp seems to compare well with the SLP-98 and AE-3. I did see a tube rectified AE-3 DJH also on Audiogon if you want to go that route and it was a good price. I think this is an upgrade over the AE-3 stock. But the LAM SRPP is the $$$ sweet spot and also EASY to modify with the space. This little unit looks to be a steal.

Posted September 4, 2003. Nice spot, Guy. I do believe this is actually the stock AE-3 and not the DJH with tube rectification and oils. It's still a good pre but I think it worth going for the DJH. These go down to $350 or so usually. He appears to be asking a hefty price for just the two sets of outputs upgrade. kh.
