the make and complete model of your sound adapter - double click - Driver's tab - write down the version info. Now click UPdate Driver (this may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers) - then Right Click - Uninstall - REBOOT this will refresh the driver stack.

Ok try this, boot in Safe Mode, go to Device Manager and uninstall all the sound drivers, if you find there are multiple instances uninstall them all. Re-boot in normal mode and install the original driver from the CD, make sure Automatic Updates can't update it.
