There are CDs that store sound in MP3 format that expand to more than 700 MB. Not the same literal storage capacity as you mean, but when I move audio files to CD to play in my car, tracks bigger than 74 minutes stay in MP3 format. When I need digital capacity that is bigger I go with a USB stick or a DVD-R.

Audio CDs you buy in stores can only have a maximum of about 80 minutes of sound, but if you rip an album to MP3 or AAC format, it will use less than 700 MB of storage space on your PC. In order to convert CDDA to MP3, your computer uses a “lossy” compression process, where some data is thrown out.

And with my generic 700mb CD-R's have overburned to about 710mb. Jamie p.s: overburning may damage the CD-R and/or CD-Writer, but I haven't seen this yet, if you are planning for an 800mb discs then definately worth going for these higher capacity ones and no trying to overburn a 700mb by x amount.

These CD-R discs hold ninety minutes of content. They are 800Mb in size rather than the 700Mb commonly seen in retail stores. I had an 86 minute long program that I wanted to get on one disc. I was able to over burn this disc and got the complete program on one CD. Most CD burners will allow you to overburn and most CD players will play them.

    For example, a 80 minute disc written in CD-ROM Mode 1 format: user data area of 2048 bytes/block x 75 blocks/second = 153,600 bytes/second x 60 seconds = 9,216,000 bytes/minute x 80 minutes = 737,280,000 bytes. This rounds to roughly 700 MB (dividing by 1,024 to convert into KB and again by 1,024 to convert into MB).

Dreamcast CDIs Too Big For 700MB CD - racketboy.com

    http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7248
It's completely normal for disc images to be over 700MB and fit on 700MB discs. It's called 2352 bytes per sector, people. Come on. Educate yourselves. Disc images that use this standard are CDI, BIN, and the like, while ISOs and some others use 2048, which means a 700+MB ISO will in fact not fit on a 700MB disc.

If you are using a program such as discjuggler (which I use) then there should be an "overburn" option or something to the same extent, which allows the burning of more than the CD is supposed to hold. For the record, I have burnt relatively large (750 mb+) games, and have never had any need for a 90-99 minute CDR.

In the Mozart 225 box set, many of the CDs exceed this duration, and some are even longer than 85 minutes. The longest CD in this set clocks in at 86:30. This isn’t a problem if you’re playing back the CDs on recent devices, or trying to rip them to a computer, but older CD players may not support these discs because the track that spirals ...
