For AUDIO CD's (not MP3) my burn speed is "8X". 8X burned discs will play in most all audio CD players without skipping. Above 12X it can be iffy with older audio CD players. Most SATA CD/DVD burners have their lowest burn speed at 16X and this can be a problem with some audio CD players - they will either skip or not play them at all.

I'd previously burned well over 1000 audio cdr disks and then rebuilt this computer after a hard drive failed. First 3 cds that I burned (with nero 7 ultra) all skip through each song but the mp3 plays back fine on the computer and my ipod. I am having a problem while burning CD-Rs. I've tried to burn them in various ways to stop them from skipping but nothing worked. I've tried to burn on different computers, I've tried to burn at the lowest speed, I've tried different softwares, I've tried to play them in a different car and still, they skip and/or the audio seems to be distorted when played.
