Put the XP CD in the player, and reboot the machine - make sure that the option is to boot from teh CD. Coes that work? If it does, then there's comething wrong with the drivers in windows. If it can't boot becuase it can't see the CD, then it's a problem with the drive.

Audio CDs are visible in the XP guest with passthrough enabled. But ripping or playing audio CDs does not work. For my requirements this is a serious issue.
