    Under "Sounds" tab, change Sound scheme back to "Windows Default", choose an event and test. Enjoy. Open "Playback Control" (right click sound icon in task bar) and set volume levels (most will be maxed) to a reasonable level.     Open up Windows Explorer > Tools > Options > make sure Hide Hidden Files and Folders is un-ticked (or Show Hidden Files and Folders is ticked) > navigate to c:_windows\system32\dllcache and locate this file : sndvol32.exe then copy it into this folder : c:\windows\system32, overwriting if asked. Re-boot. You should now have your mixer back.
