So, Type 2 is certainly better than Type 1. Also, it is probably safe to assume that Type 3 is better than Type 2. If you are worried about the unknown, stick with Type 2. In any case, we are dealing with upconversion here, where dithering is less important than downsampling. I would not be worried about any Type ruining your audio signal.
